What does Hypnagogical Training mean?

It is a training which occurs in a condition of light wakefulness similar to the REM phase of sleep (ηιπνοσ, hypnos, sleep), with an educational connotation (αγω, needle, lead). The Hypnagogical Training allows to naturally change some behaviors that are not functional to personal well-being while listening to a recording capable of providing indications, suggestions, inductions, advice, confirmations, alternatives and/or proposals. Hypnagogical Training has the characteristics of an educational training carried out in cozy and reassuring conditions.

What is Hypnagogical Training and how does it work?

The Hypnagogical Training consists essentially of a set of verbal and sound elements, linked together in order to pursue specific objectives. First of all, it aims to frame the basic situation, identifying the characteristics of the specific discomfort and the dynamics that normally arise in experiencing such discomfort. Then, the person is helped to become aware of his respiratory activity, of proprioceptive components, of body sensations and, through the (repetition of ?) listening, he is taught to reach a state of relaxation with greater ease and effectiveness, first of all physical, which is reflected on the mental and spiritual component. At this point we proceed with a specific work of inductions through which to suggest alternative behaviors, to clarify frequent dynamics and to modify those that are recognized and experienced as incorrect behavior that, at the end, are at the base of the feeling of unease or malaise. Finally, the general is led back to the particular, making sure that behaviors often linked to common sense can concretely reflect on the existential acting modalities, working not on the symptoms or on external manifestations, but on their origin, providing a solid, lasting and stable support, functional to behavioral choices for a peaceful, full and conscious life.

Which are the basic principles of Hypnagogical Trainings?

Each Hypnagogical Training meets different mental, physical and spiritual needs, through an approach which is less focused if compared to the individual sessions but equally valid. Their characteristics allow in fact to support a personal path even if they have not been designed on a single person, and base their effectiveness on some fundamental aspects:

  • many situations of discomfort are common to more (a great number of) people. Although each of them has its own history and ways of dealing with particular situations, it is possible to detect various shared elements, both from the point of view of the causes and the possibilities for intervention.

How do an Hypnagogical Training work?

The Hypnagogical Training allows the person to increase motivation, determination, self-esteem and awareness to be able to spontaneously and naturally use attitudes and behaviors that are perceived as correct and of which one is aware but which are often difficult to follow.

How can an Hypnagogical Training work on different people?

How many times do I have to listen to the Training to notice the change?

This audio recordings are a training, so you can listen to them several times, increasing the benefits each time. It is not possible to give precise information on the duration of the routes, because the body makes sure to adapt naturally to new behaviors. In general, a cycle of 8 sessions brings significant results, while persevering for a duration of three weeks consolidates the result and allows you to absorb each indication in the most complete way.


Listening mode

What is the difference between sleep and wake mode?

In one case the induction ends accompanying to complete awakening, leaving you awake and active, ready to resume your activities. In the other it facilitates rest, so it is a version suitable for example before sleeping.

What is the most effective mode?

All ratings are equivalent to a 21-day classic daily listening program. You can choose according to your preferences. If you think not to use daily your Hypnagogical Training, I suggest to use di Binaural mode, so to take the most advantage in a lesser time. But if you want to experience the listening accompanied by binaural waves you will have to listen to the Training with stereo headphones, so you can hear the two distinct audio tracks in a slight background. You can also change every time. The content of the recording does not change, while the listening atmosphere does.

Can I listen to different Trainings on the same day?

Each recording deals with a different topic, or different aspects related to a common theme. It is therefore possible to listen to more than one training to solve tensions deriving from different causes, even at the same time. Just as we do not implement only one behavior at a time, continually comparing ourselves with choices and opportunities, so we can take advantage of more resources at different times. Common sense suggests not to exaggerate, preferring a good single listening to an excess of stimuli that could be hasty and superficial, compromising their effectiveness. If you are able to manage audios in the suggested way, however, nothing prevents you from following more than one path.

Can I listen to the Hypnagogical Training more than once a day or use a loop function?

When listening conditions are respected according to the instructions provided, the Hypnagogical Training is an extremely powerful tool that accompanies a complete and sufficient evolutionary path. The messages contained are addressed and processed in a direct and unconscious way from brain areas to which repetition is not necessary: one single shock is enough to learn not to play with the electrical outlets. Moreover, simply the tell of what can happen teaches you for life. Which are the best conditions for listening to a Hypnagogical Training?
The ideal conditions are those in which you are at ease. The optimal situation foresees a familiar, comfortable and silent environment, soft lights, the possibility of settling down comfortably and having enough time to listen without being disturbed. The clothing should be comfortable, with no laces or too tight belts. If possible, you can remove your shoes, so you can feel a better contact with the floor if seated or more comfortable if you prefer to lay down.

What happens if I cannot relax?

Each one responds to the (audience?) based on his inclinations, aims, attitudes. It does not matter to achieve the immobility or the perfect condition: the Training works on different fronts, in order to pursue its purpose regardless of the ease with which you can participate. During the day many moments are experienced in an altered state of consciousness, sometimes for a moment, other times for a few minutes. When you are thoughtful, you drive for a long time, reaching a point without remembering the route, you are immersed in a movie or in your own thoughts. All the training sessions are designed to reach these mental states at different times, during which the suggestions are most effective. What you will easily realize is that, following carefully the instructions for listening, you will immediately be able to experience a feeling of trust and complacency, which will lead you to focus on breathing and body perceptions, to keep longer and longer a position and get maximum effectiveness from your Hypnagogical Training. Consistency in listening will allow you to improve every time.

Is Hypnagogical Training more effective if I fall asleep afterwards?

The Awakening version and the Sleep version have the same content: you can choose your favorite or use the most suitable one depending on the time of day. The Awakening version leaves aware and ready for action, so you can also use it when you need a regenerative break. The Sleep version allows you to go directly to sleep, so it may be useful to listen to it in the evening, ready for night rest.

What happens if I fall asleep while listening?

Experiencing the relaxing phase while listening to the Hypnagogical Training, often brings the sensation of slipping into sleep, alternating phases of slight awakening and falling asleep. The sound suggestions are received at a different cognitive level, even when you do not really listen to the words, you fall asleep or seem to be awake. The efficacy of Hypnagogical Training remains the same in each of these waking or sleeping situations: you can follow the preference of the moment and support the inclination that manifests. In conditions of particular stress or fatigue it may happen that, at the end of the training, after the recovery of the waking state, you move to set better and you fall asleep. Why do I have to close my eyes during the induction?

Closing your eyes when suggested allows you to turn your attention to yourself and your feelings, to fully experience the effectiveness and pleasantness of listening.

Do I risk of losing contact with reality while listening?

During playback, the listener receives precise instructions on how to breathe and perform physical or mental exercises to be performed to obtain a general relaxation condition. The level of superficial relaxation achieved is sufficient to learn but not to fall into what is considered a deep hypnotic state. If the doorbell rings, or the telephone calls, or something happens in the environment, the person notices it as if he were in a passive wakeful state, similar to when he is thoughtful or absorbed in a passionate reading.

What is the best time for listening?

What happens if I have to stop listening?

It may happen that, despite all the precautions and preparation, something interrupts the session. In this event the awakening will not be different from when you are sleeping: a part of your brain is naturally programmed to stay tuned to the external environment just to face any unexpected events. Each Hypnagogical Training is designed considering processes, sequences and suggestions aimed at achieving the final objective: the progression must therefore be respected to obtain the full benefits guaranteed by the program. It is therefore advisable to resume listening at the beginning of the relaxing phase, ie at least at the point where it is advisable to close the eyes. Alternatively, it is better to dedicate yourself (to) a complete listening when you’ll have enough sufficient time.

Why do I have to use stereo headphones?

The use of stereo headset reduces external noise, favoring concentration on yourself, so they are preferable to earphones. Moreover, the lower binaural frequencies can’t be performed by normal earphones. The possibility to hear the two separate tracks, in addition to offering a better listening quality, allows you to activate the resonance mechanism at the base of the binaural beats theory. Finally, it is important that the headphones have a good equalization to adequately reproduce the binaural beats and allow the experience of sound feedback. You do not need to spend too much, just consider to listen to frequencies of at least 20 Herz.

Hypnagogical Trainings differs from what commonly is defined as deep hypnosis and from autogenic training, but we can highlight some equal aspects, as the attention on the breath and the psychophysical well-being of the subject. If we consider Hypnosis an altered state of consciousness, as loosing in personal thoughts or wandering dreaming open-eyed (open eyes day-dreaming), then they bring to a similar condition. It’s a state of strong awareness and focus. The audios follow a sequence designed to obtain the best results and accompany in a path of psychophysical relaxation. It is important to reiterate the key concepts of Hypnagogical Trainings: first of all, any element that is experienced as strange or potentially disturbing to the subject is naturally ignored, just as in a normal conversation; secondly, its effectiveness and intensity are as great as the person let them to; finally, if some external event intervenes that requires the attention of the subject, he would be immediately ready to deal with it.

Risks and contraindications

Can Hypnagogical Trainings have contraindications?

The Hypnagogical Trainings itself can not do damage, because the set of rules and normes that characterize their creation, the ways in which the contents are chosen, their arrangement within the audio and the sequence in which they are presented makes sure that whatever disturbs, rather than benefits, is naturally overlooked by the person who listens to them. Despite this, if you feel unpleasant sensations while listening or there are no appreciable improvements in a few days, the advice is to address someone who is able to unravel the particular situation and help you to make the point, and possibly to undertake different or complementary ways. I am suffering from epilepsy, can I use Hypnagogical Trainings?

As far as the Voice and Musical versions are concerned, there are no contraindications at all. On the contrary, the relaxing effects of Hypnagogical Trainings can help to clear myoclonic crises and manage them with greater awareness. There is also no scientific evidence of harmful effects resulting from listening to binaural beats by people with epilepsy. However, we recommend that you consult your doctor before listening to the full version of the file or in case of illness or changes in your condition.

I am a hyperactive subject, certified ADHD, I can not sit still: listening works the same?

Unlike what you might think, you will not be passive while listening: all the ADHD kids and teens that experienced Hypnagogical Trainings have been enthusiastic. What happens if I choose the wrong Training?

The risks are void, because the person remains perfectly conscious and present, to the point that any variation, environmental or individual, interrupts the basis of hypnagogical distension achieved. Not having a professional who follows me directly will not give me inferior results?

The decision to undertake a personal journey with Hypnagogical Trainings represents your manifestation of will to take charge of the situation that is going through. The fact that you are not confronted with a professional in charge of investigating the causes of discomfort and of drafting an intervention program is therefore of little significance. Why are the training all male?

Hypnagogical Trainings are formulated using masculine to avoid communication complications. Listening is addressed to the unconscious, rather than to the person, so much so that when listening, you can hardly perceive the difference between a training session for men and one for women. Anyway, in english this doesn’t affect the listening.

Why in the Hypnagogic Trainings you address to "you"?

In Hypnagogical Trainings we use "you", because we do not distinguish between sex, age or roles. It is a very direct communication addressed to the intimate essence of the person, and as such must have very informal and simple colloquial characteristics. Anyway, in english this doesn’t affect the listening.

Which are the strengths of the Hypnagogical Training?

Technical Insights

What does “binaural” mean?

It simply means that it is heard by both ears. The binaural waves (commonly called beats because of their dynamics) are a combination of waves dissimilar for a few Hertz, that are transmitted each on one of the stereo tracks.

What is the “brain feedback mechanism”?

It is a mechanism induced by a potential difference between two elements, which triggers a third. For example, in the case of Hypnagogical Training, a difference of 20-40 Hz between the right ear and the left ear leads to the brain generation of a third wave. The creative process is stimulating for the brain and the wave generated has important effects on the distension process. Each wave, and each waves combination, leads to particular effects.

How do binaural waves work?

One of the sounds played during listening on one of the tracks (for example the right ear) is a tone, of varying intensity between 30 and 200 Hz, depending on the reinforcement effect to be obtained. On the other track (in our example 'left ear) you create a track with a tone of 25-50 Hz more or less. When these traces are listened to, a brain effect is created so that, by resonance, a third intermediate wave is generated. It seems that the process of generation, as well as listening to the agreement between the two tones, has relaxing, stimulating or rebalancing properties under different nuances.
